1. What is rhythmic gymnastics?

Rhythmic gymnastics is an Olympic sport that blends dance, flexibility, and coordination with the use of hand apparatus — hoop, ball, ribbon, clubs, and rope — all performed to music. It's different from the tumbling and bars most people picture when they hear "gymnastics." For young children, it builds coordination, balance, musicality, and confidence in a graceful, expressive style. It's a wonderful first sport for girls who love to move, dance, and perform.

2. How old does my daughter need to be to start?

We welcome girls starting at age 3.5, and we have classes all the way through high school. Our youngest group (Pre-K, ages 3.5–4) is designed specifically for little ones — lots of movement, music, and play, with gentle introduction to the apparatus. If your daughter can follow simple directions in a group and is comfortable spending 45 minutes in class without you, she's ready to try.

3. Does my daughter need any experience?

None at all. Most of the girls in our Pre-K and Beginner classes have never done gymnastics before, and that's exactly who these classes are for. Ms. Jula meets each child at her own level and builds from there. All your daughter needs to bring is a willingness to try.

4. What should she wear to her first class?

A leotard is ideal, but for a first class, comfortable athletic clothes like leggings and a fitted top are perfectly fine — nothing baggy that gets in the way of movement. Rhythmic gymnastics is done in bare feet, so no shoes or socks are needed. Long hair should be tied back. That's it.

5. Can I stay and watch?

Yes — and for our youngest gymnasts (ages 3–5), a parent or guardian stays for the whole class. A familiar face nearby helps little ones feel settled. We do ask that you let Ms. Jula lead: as tempting as it is to step in and help, your daughter learns best when she's following the coach's directions herself, taking part in the group, and getting used to the rhythm of class. That focus is part of what she's here to build. For older girls, you're always welcome to watch, especially in the early weeks.

6. How much do classes cost, and what's included?

Classes are priced by session, with each session running about two months. You'll find current pricing and the full schedule for every level on our Schedule page. A few things worth knowing up front: there's a one-time registration fee per family, we offer a 15% sibling discount, and your session price includes our winter and year-end show fees — so there are no surprise performance costs. We accept Venmo, check, and cash.

A few costs sit outside tuition, mainly at the higher levels. For our Pre-K, Rising Stars, and Beginner classes, we provide the apparatus — there's nothing extra to buy beyond a leotard. Advanced, Pre-Team, and Team gymnasts provide their own apparatus (hoop, ball, ribbon, clubs, or rope), which parents purchase — new or gently used — with the coach's guidance beforehand, so they meet USA Gymnastics standards. Pre-Team and Team families also pay separately for outside competitions, routines, and performance costumes, since these vary by season and by each gymnast's participation.

7. How do you decide which class my daughter joins?

We look at three things: your daughter's age, any previous experience she has, and — for our youngest gymnasts — her readiness to take part in a group class. Age is the main factor, especially for little ones. For girls 7 and up, Ms. Jula will watch your daughter in her first class and recommend the level where she'll be most comfortable and appropriately challenged. The goal is always to place her where she'll thrive — never to test or exclude her. If you're unsure which class fits, the free first class is the perfect way to find out together.

8. Do you offer summer classes?

Yes. Each summer we run a few weeks of intensive classes to help our gymnasts stay in shape and keep building their skills over the break. These are open to current Rhythmic Angels students only, since space is very limited, and they're for girls ages 5 and up. Families choose from several one-week sessions across June, July, and August, with morning, afternoon, or full-day options. We publish the summer schedule and open registration in early January — spots fill quickly, so watch for the announcement if you'd like your daughter to take part.

9. Do you host birthday parties or other events?

We don't host birthday parties, but we do throw a couple of seasonal celebrations each year — a Halloween party and a Valentine's party — just for our gymnasts. These run a couple of hours on a weekend, with games, dancing, crafts, a movie, and treats, for a small fee that covers pizza, snacks, and dessert. They're open to Rhythmic Angels girls only, and space is limited, so we announce them ahead of time.

10. How do we get started?

The best first step is a free first class — no experience needed and no commitment. Just reach out to book a spot, bring your daughter in comfortable clothes and bare feet, and let her try it. If it's a good fit, we'll help you choose a class and complete registration from there. You can book through our website, or contact us by phone, email, or text.
